Increase in interventions for problems at home |

| from Touring Club Suisse (TCS)

25.04.2025, The TCS is experiencing a steady increase in home assistance calls. The most common problems are faulty flushes, clogged pipes, and leaking water. In around 75 percent of cases, a tradesperson can provide immediate relief. In Geneva, the TCS is breaking new ground with its own tradesperson patrols, following the established breakdown assistance model.
What could be more frustrating than a plumbing problem, a power outage, or a jammed lock, especially when you're in a hurry? Such household incidents are common, and TCS is seeing an increase in calls from private households. For example, TCS Home, the home breakdown service, has seen a steady increase in demand for calls in recent years.
The most common breakdowns affect plumbing.
Although the calls cover a wide range of problems, they primarily affect plumbing. The most common breakdowns include faulty flushes, blocked pipes, and water leaks from pipes and faucets. Malfunctions in household appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines also result in numerous calls. Finally, power outages, which can be particularly problematic when charging electric vehicles at home, remain a common reason for calls.
Three out of four breakdowns resolved on-site
A breakdown is never welcome, but it's encouraging to see that, regardless of the time and nature of the incident, a solution can often be found on-site. In around 75 percent of cases, the repair – with a permanent or temporary solution – can be carried out immediately. Thanks to these rapid responses, those affected can resume their work without disrupting their daily lives for days.
Innovation in Geneva
Based on the patrol model that provides first aid in the event of car breakdowns, the TCS launched its first craftsman patrol in Geneva, which provides rapid on-site assistance in the event of breakdowns at home. The new craftsman patrol handles around half of all TCS Home calls in Geneva, especially the most urgent ones. The remaining calls and repairs are handled by external tradespeople. "With our own craftsmen and women, we want to offer our members a new service – true to the TCS DNA: providing assistance in an emergency, just as we already do with our road patrols and our ambulance fleet," says Jürg Wittwer, Director General of the TCS. The craftsman patrol has a specially equipped vehicle at its disposal, which has the necessary equipment for efficient and rapid on-site handling.
Since its launch in Geneva in 2022, TCS Home has seen increasing use. After 115 missions in the initial year, the number of missions increased to 223 in 2023 and 267 in 2024, representing an increase of 232 percent in two years. Last year, over 1,600 missions were carried out in Switzerland.
