Commercial Register 2024: Swiss company formations reach historic high

15.01.2025, Zurich - With 52,978 company formations, Switzerland will reach a new record in 2024. This represents a significant increase compared to the previous year with 51,637 registrations and also compared to the previous ten years. These figures underline the sustained growth and increasing dynamism in the Swiss economic environment.

New registrations:
The year 2024 ends with a remarkable increase in new companies: 4,995 new companies were registered in December, an increase of 14% compared to the previous month. The year-on-year comparison also shows a positive development, with an increase of 6% compared to the previous year. If we look at the whole year, a total of 52,978 new companies were registered in the commercial register in 2024 - a new record that exceeds the peak of 2023 by 2.6%. The long-term comparison over the last ten years underlines the impressive growth of the Swiss economy. In 2014, only 41,687 new companies were founded, which corresponds to an increase of 27% by 2024. This development illustrates the continuous dynamism of the Swiss corporate landscape.

Deletions
The number of company deletions rose again significantly in December 2024, reaching 3,117. This represents an increase of 20% compared to the previous month, when 2,589 deletions were recorded. There is also an increase of 10% compared to December of the previous year. There has been a continuous decline in total deletions since 2019, but since 2023 there has been an increase again. In 2024, a total of 32,596 deletions were registered, which corresponds to an increase of 6% compared to the previous year and represents a new high.

Mutations:
The number of mutations reached a new high at the end of 2024. In December, 20,130 companies were mutated, which corresponds to an increase of 19% compared to November. Of these, 2,360 companies decided to liquidate their company in December 2024. There is also a significant increase year-on- year: Compared to 2023, mutations recorded an increase of 18%.

Principality of Liechtenstein
The Principality of Liechtenstein also saw a positive development in new entries in the commercial register in December 2024. With 120 newly registered companies, Liechtenstein recorded an increase of 50% compared to the previous month. In the course of 2024, a total of 785 new companies were entered into the commercial register of the Principality of Liechtenstein. This corresponds to a slight decrease of 1% compared to the previous year 2023.

The number of mutations, on the other hand, fell significantly: In December, a total of 785 changes were reported, which corresponds to a decrease of 43% compared to the previous month. Deletions, on the other hand, increased. In December 2024, 97 companies were removed from the commercial register, which also represents an increase compared to the previous months.
